I wanted to put together this Blog Post to share some thoughts on how to plan your Temple and Priesthood Preparation! I was in charge of putting together a gift and I wanted to do a “Temple Kit” of sorts and so I based it upon the ways you can prepare to enter the temple!
The way we set it up is that we had our Primary President give a little talk about the Temple and the Covenants you make there, and then we had a member of the Young Men’s Presidency welcome the new kids entering Young Mens as well as a member of the Young Women’s Presidency to welcome the Young Women. We had a youth speaker from Young Women’s share her thoughts and experiences from doing baptisms for the dead, and it was really cool to have someone close to their age share their excitement and insight from already experiencing the blessings that come from going to the temple.
I presented the gift to them last, I wouldn’t recommend doing this large of a gift if you have a large Valiant 10 group. Ours was only 3 kids and we needed to use up some of our budget before the end of the year. I believe I ended up spending at least $10-12 per child… maybe a little bit more. But it was WORTH IT!
ALTERNATE GIFT: This year we have a Valiant 10 class that has about 9 kids so we are going to give them one of the prints along with a temple recommend holder. I don’t think you can go wrong with giving that to them as their gift, if you decide to give one at all. I know everyones budgets are different.
I looked up some of the questions that they will be asked for a Temple Recommend Interview and based the “Temple Preparedness” items on those.
- Have faith in Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ & the Holy Ghost
2) Support your church leaders like the Prophet, Apostles and Bishop
3) Keep your mind and body clean and pure
4) Keep the Covenants you made when you were baptized
5) Follow the commandments
6) “Bee” honest
7) Pay a full 10% tithing
8) Keep the word of wisdom
9) Be worthy to enter the house of The Lord
I purchased the white box from Hobby Lobby to place the items in and I got the white filler grass and twine from the Dollar Store! I told the kiddos that this box could be a fun thing to keep their printables from Young Men & Young Women’s… do the guys ever give fun prints to the YM? I absolutely loved getting cute spiritual quotes from YW, but, I am now a designer so maybe that’s not everyones “thing”. Regardless, a fun box for treasures lol.
